Silver is one of the essential trace minerals required by plants, animals and humans. It is a natural element that occurs in the soil. Silver is a powerful natural antibiotic that has been used for thousands of years, with no side effects. It appears to be connected to the bodies natural defense system. Having a sufficient amount of silver in the body is like having a second immune system.

It has been known for at least 1200 years that silver is a bactericide. In ancient times, Romans and Greeks found liquids stayed fresh longer if silver was put into the containers. American pioneers put silver dollars in jugs of milk to delay spoilage. Silverware “hidden” in water barrels kept the water from going bad. In the 1920’s, 30’s and 40’s silver was finely ground, suspended in water, and used orally and topically to treat a variety of infections and disease conditions. In 1938, over 650 bacteria, virus, and fungi were considered to be treatable with silver. Until 1970 it was not uncommon for scientists to put silver dimes in their petri dishes to sterilize the dishes. Silver was also used for surgical plates to repair bones.

In the former Soviet Union, silver is used to sterilize recycled water aboard space shuttles. NASA also uses a silver/water system for its space shuttle. Many international airlines use silver water filters in their aircraft. In Switzerland, silver water filters are approved for use in homes and offices. Some cities in the US use silver in the treatment of sewage. It works so well to purify water, it can be used in swimming pools. It does not sting the eyes like chlorine and it kills mosquito larva.

Silver is a catalyst that disables the enzyme that all one-celled bacteria, virus, and fungi use for oxygen metabolism, thereby suffocating them. Viruses are destroyed because the electrical charge of the silver particles causes their internal protoplast to collapse, leaving them unable to reproduce. Silver does not harm the natural, essential bacteria found in our intestinal tract because they are aerobic (oxygen breathing), rather than anaerobic (occurring only in the absence of oxygen).

Bacteria have a tremendous ability to adapt and can mutate to overcome chemical antibiotics*. Disease-causing bacteria are developing immunity or resistance to modern antibiotics even in isolated areas of the world. Resistant strains of bacteria or viruses fail to develop when silver is used. Add a cupful or two to hot tubs, pour over sauna rocks, or add to gym footbaths.
If you live in a humid environment, spray it on carpets, drapes, and stored clothing to prevent mildew and musty odors.
Add to water based paints, wallpaper glues, and sizing compounds to prevent mold.
Spray in shoes to eliminate foot odor.
